We shall target presenting the plan on “story telling activity” for the current week (June 02 2007)
(We can find a lot of books and cd’s in Landmark). I have collected few of them
FYI, I have picked up the following, (its just an info for all)
a) Stories from Panchatantra - Published by Pustak mahal (Rs 60)
b) 50 wittiest tales of Birbal - Published by Pustak mahal (Rs 48)
c) A combo CD Pack having panchatantra and other stories (Rs 180)
d) Lot of other small story books (To be acting as fillers) (around Rs 50 each)
We need to come up with activity plan such that
a) We identify a story and give a reference to it (A link / book reference)
b) List all difficult words and their meanings in the story
c) List all interactive discussions which can be spawn
d) The minimum areas which are to be touched upon while covering the story.
I recommend reading all the stories before you start writing.
(I am almost done with reading panchatantra stories, it will give a lot of insight as to which story is to be picked, what to be told etc.,)
We will have it implemented phase wise,
a) Tuesday – Read through the stories
b) Wednesday – Create an initial draft of stories and circulate the same by end of day
c) Thursday – We shall have a call to discuss the draft among ourselves
We can conference at 12PM. I would appreciate if somebody can set up a conference call (as I cannot set it up from here)
d) Friday – We shall make necessary updates and upload the documents to the portal
Snehil was mentioning about “story construction”, if we can have an activity presented pertaining to that it shall be great.
Note: We can always add stories and increase the count (and thus sessions)
I also have lots of books at my home.I would be able to bring them only when i go home, after June 10th,07.
I have a collection of Amar chitra Katha books, which also includes Tales of Tennali Raman, Akbar Birbal and Panchatantra.

It's a good way to start. I have gone through around 30 stories from Akbar Birbak site and have found them quite interesting. I will further work on evolving them into the format you have suggested.

I think we can also divide the stories into two categories, as to one for the 3,4 std kids and other for the 5-7 std kids based on the complexity.
We can also include stories like the 'Golden Goose', the 'Honest Wood Cutter and the Three Axes' stories for the 3,4 std kids, which could be very easy for them to understand and remember.
As for the story building worksheets, they could be used for the 5-7 std kids to improve their creativity. We could give them a sheet as an assignment and ask them to complete it by next week at the end of our story-telling session (Though not sure how many would actually take it up seriously).
Malar, Gr8 you can get the books
At first, We should target to put together our first story, It shall give us important inputs and learnings which we can leverage in our future stories.

the worksheets at http://www.teach-nology.com/ are good, but against each activity we need to do lot of homework
(We might have to outline atleast three - four stories such that it can be made as a group activity and
the same can be presented by the students themselves, which can bring in teamwork and also let them actually see the dimensions in which people think)

I read about Tenali Ramakrishna's childhood and how he became King Krishnadevaraya's favorite jesters. He did not go to school since he was very poor. He used to stand near the wall of a school to learn something from the class inside. But was caught and warned one day. All his knowledge was because of Kali's blessing. He meditated so vigorously that ma Kali was pleased and she gave him all the knowledge of vedas. How should we put this point to the students? Should we avoid this? Or state it plainly so that the truth is not hidden and at the same time we are not sounding religious.
I remember that I had raised this point one day. But don’t remember to have got a satisfactory answer.
In that case, do not give the complete history, just touch upon that he did not go to school, he learnt vedas with the grace of God, Highlight on vedas, types of vedas, what do they contain briefly, his time of existence, his king, any historical significance of his time, his humour, funny nature etc.,
